True grace!

True grace produces true holiness!

Scandal of Grace – a wonderful song

Jesus never compromise His beautiful standard yet He was perceived as scandalous.

Luke 7:31-32
And the Lord said, “ To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying:
‘ We played the flute for you,
And you did not dance;
We mourned to you,
And you did not weep. ’

Jesus is Jehovah! Jesus came with grace. His ministry was a ministry of music and dance yet no one rejoiced.

Luke 7:33-50
A friend of tax collectors and sinners. (Tax collectors in those days had to renounce their families when they are tax collectors. They are pronounced as someone not of their country and considered as social outcast and not even allowed to be in temple)

This phrase came from His critics.

Whoever think they are forgiven much will love much. But those who think they are forgiven little will love little.

Luke 7:36
A Sinful Woman Forgiven
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down (reclined, not sat down) to eat.

He did not feel welcome in the Pharisee’s house. They invited Him as a Teacher n He went in as a Teacher. Those who invited Him as a Saviour, He felt at home!
How we perceive Him affects!!

When people see Jesus, they are transformed!!!

The tax collector had the desire to see Jesus and climbed on the tree! He had the heart to see Jesus. He wanted to have the glimpse of Jesus and Jesus gave him full day by inviting Himself to his house!

Matthew 9:9-12
Matthew the Tax Collector
As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “ Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.
Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “ Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

It has got nothing to do with who we are and what we have when Jesus called us to follow Him. It is grace!

He invited tax collectors and sinners. Jesus sat down with them and ate at the same table. The Pharisees saw and asked His disciples (instead of Jesus) why Jesus sat with the sinners.
The tax collectors and sinners welcomed Jesus as Saviour!

Jesus wants to save our bodies, friendship, life…He never stop saving us! Once we see Him as Saviour, grace will save us!!

Jesus never taught the tax collector, but just ate at his house and he repented.

Behold! Means take note!
Luke 7:37-38
And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought (Greek-She brought as a payment) an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped (keep on continuing) them with the hair of her head; and she kissed ( Kataphileo – kiss again and again tenderly) His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.

She kept on and did not cease. Kataphileo – kiss again and again tenderly

Jesus is the Son of a living God and He can save us!!!

True grace produces true holiness!

The son abides in the house. The servant does not.

God saved us by His grace and He did it righteously!

It is compromised grace if He forgives sinners without payment.
Every forgiveness is paid for! It is not only sacrificed, it is magnified! It is fully met on the cross!! Jesus provided the death on the cross!

Grace – God saw all our sins and they are all put on Jesus on the cross! God knows everything perfectly! Jesus was cursed and judged at the cross. Our sins did not escape!!

What comes out of the cross is God’s free favour, it is all paid for!!

If a grace church needs constant reminder..
We are “naturally” wanting to pay for things.

Grace must be received. Our efforts mean nothing. Jesus paid for it, will we receive it?

Jesus knows our thoughts! Jesus knows all about me and He loves me!

Jesus arrested Simon’s thoughts. Simon called Him teacher. He perceived Him as Teacher, and not Saviour.

Our estimation of Jesus always affect our reception.

Since Simon welcomed Jesus as Teacher, He taught him as a Teacher.

Luke 7:42
And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”

When grace is active – freely given!

Freely forgive-when grace is in action.

Luke 7:44-45
Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “ Do you see (blepo) this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.

See here is blepo – to see and discern mentally

She was a little girl, do u see her? Discern her. Somewhere along the way she was abused when she was young. Nobody sees. The Lord sees.

God sent His Son primarily as Saviour.

Do you discern the way Jesus sees her?

Hope we leave this place, seeing people differently.

We justify ourselves.

There are 3 miracles of resurrection recorded.

The 1st one was a 12 year old girl. (She just died and was raised)
The 2nd one was a boy (he died for a few hours)
The 3rd one was dead 4 days

Different levels of decay but all dead.

Jesus did not come to give religion. He came to make dead people live! Our hearts are beating but we were cut off from God and dead internally and spiritually. We don’t care! But the Lord cares!!!!

Luke 7:44-46
Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “ Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.

Common things to do was to wash the guest’s feet when he come in.
But the Pharisees did not.

The reason why she loves Jesus much was because she knew she was forgiven much! Jesus forgave her already! She came to the house to show the result of forgiven much!!

The result of she loving much tells u she is saved.

Luke 7:47
Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven (perfect tense) , for she loved (aorist tense) much. But to whom little is forgiven (present tense), the same loves little.”

Aorist means past

There is little love for Jesus because we think of forgiveness as present tense. This is the mentality that people has. When they sin, they are looking at present tense forgiveness. They are not looking at the finality of forgiveness.

When the woman conscious she was accepted by Jesus, she brought her heart her person and her wealth to Jesus! alabaster is expensive and she brought to Jesus.

The finality of forgiveness. Jesus forgave once and for all!

God does not live in the future! God exist outside time!

God sees our ALL as the entire life.
The more we know we are forgiven, the more we love Jesus!!

Jesus spoke to the Pharisees about her work and when He talked to her was about her faith!!

Jesus pointed out her work to the spiritual leader.

The work of grace is we are in love with Jesus and we did not know we are producing fruits!

Luke 7:48
Then He said to her, “ Your sins are forgiven.” (Perfect tense)

Jesus reminded her that she is forgiven once and for all!

In the Greek perfect tense means it is done once and for all and it will never be repeated. Imperfect tense means it is done again and again

We have truly been saved! We have been forgiven!!! (Once and for all!!)

Preached our sins are forgiven once and for all! When we fall in love with Jesus, we fell out of love with sins!

Works are the results. Love makes the difference!

Keep things simple! Grace is not complicated! Christianity is not complicated.

Jesus’ disciples were fishermen. They can be taught, so can lawyers and housewives.

Luke 7:50
Then He said to the woman, “ Your faith has saved (once and for all!) you. Go in peace.”

We are saved once and for all!! We don’t need to be saved and re-saved!
The blood of bulls and goats in old testament could cover for one year! Jesus’ blood save us once and for all!!!

Try even if they fail. – this is success!

The lifestyle of sins, the work tells us his belief.

There is no way u can be saved and live in sin.

Go in peace -” in” is eis – into

Enter into shalom. Shalom means well-being.
No more diseases.

She got the expensive box as a payment when she worked. She lost a bit of her soul each time she got her pay. She saved her money for the box. She was crying out for normal life. She put her investment into the box. She poured to Jesus. She meant Jesus gave back her soul.

She sold her soul and Jesus bought it back for her! He gave her strength to stand again! She was once upon a time a little girl…
